Long time no talk?
School has been incredibly busy these past two weeks. I haven’t had the time to return comments or let alone go online that much. I’ve been on Twitter here and there, but I wasn’t actually able to tweet normally. Last week I had like tons of tests, projects and I had my recital. Then I also had to practice for tennis & I had meetings after school. I also had a retreat that I went on for the whole weekend for religion. Then this week I had to help out after school almost every day until 5:30 and I had a concert. I had lots of tests on Friday, and I also got sick. I’m glad though that I’m on break now, so I can catch up.
I still have to return like 20 comments, so don’t comment if you didn’t receive a comment from our previous conversation! I WILL get back to them. I’m sorry for neglecting this. I kept putting it off, and then I got so busy, and then time just slipped away.
So during my crazy school life. My weird social studies teacher which I hate, left. There were multiple rumors of her leave. Some people say she broke her leg, some say her mother died, and some say she was getting surgery. Well, whatever the right reason is, she is gone for the rest of the year. We were all kind of happy, but yet, we knew we were going to regret it. We had a temporary sub for a week and a half. We were 3 units behind, and that’s like 3 months of stuff. So our sub was trying to catch us up. We have a state test in June and we need to know everything, as well as for the final. We learned about WWI in 3 days. Then, we had the Roaring 20’s which we learned for a week. So we had 2 tests with this sub whom we had for a week and a half. We weren’t use to all of these tests. Now we have a new permanent sub who is a tad scary. He has a super low voice, and he keeps yelling at us. Then we learned about the Great Depression in 1 week! He told us that the Great Depression usually takes 3-4 weeks but we are so behind we must do it in 1 week. So we got a test on Friday, but here’s the catch: We had a 15 minute period to take the test. That’s crazy! Plus, he said he took the questions off a 11th grade Regents! He was like “Oh, you guys have taken a Regents so you know what it’s like,” meanwhile, we never took a Regents, and we’re in 8th grade. The test was soo hard, and we all guessed because we didn’t have that much time. We just sat down to take the test and he’s like “Ok, 10 minutes left, you should be halfway done.” WHAT THE HECK. And he also expects us to be so “smart.” He stereotypes us all the time. He told us that since we are Honors, we usually “read” over the weekend. Then he says how since we are Honors, we should get harder tests, like that makes sense, but not 3 years ahead tests! And last but not least, he said that we could take the test in a period that is more then half the usual time to take a test, because we’re “Honors.”
I mean really, what does the name “Honors” give to people?! I know we are usually more mature and we have a greater understanding, but always comparing us to Regents kids, that’s not always the right thing to do. We do have a life other then school. We don’t all read in our free time, and we certainly aren’t smart enough to take a test in a 15 minute period, as opposed to our usual 40.
So this was my little rant, I think I failed that test, but whatever. That class has been serving no purpose because I learn more social studies in 21st Century Skills then I actually do at SS.
